Abroad

Each trainee has one function-related international assignment (Europe-Asia). An assignment in any of our Group companies is possible in principle. Examples of previous assignments include:

France: Nouvelles Frontières
Greece: Grecotel, TUI Hellas

Italy: Acampora Travel, EasyMarket
Spain: TUI España, RIU Hotels S.A.
Sweden: TUI Nordic, Fritidsresor AB

United Kingdom: TUI UK, Thomsonfly

A fixed element of the programme is a "tour guide" assignment in one of the destinations for trainees.

Application deadlines There are no application deadlines. Regardless the fact that we offer two entry dates, we look forward to receiving your application at any time.
Assessment workshop To be accepted for the Trainee Programme, you have to pass a 1,5-day assessment in our assessment workshop. The assessment workshop takes place three to four months before starting the programme. So there will be assessment workshops in October and November for the progamme starting in February and assessment workshops in May and June for the Trainee Programme starting in September.
Assignments The assignments in the Trainee Programme last between three to four months depending on whether they involve project work or day-to-day business. Ideally, trainees gain experience of both during the course of an assignment.
Accommodation search If a change of assignment also is associated with a change of location, we expect our trainees to look for accommodation themselves. They can fall back here on the support of the trainee network. The company itself provides help on location in the case of overseas assignment.

C
Career When the Trainee Programme is over, we also provide a supporting development programme to prepare our staff for the next career move. Which track people end up on depends on their own performance.
Commitment We expect our trainees to show above average commitment. We rely on the commitment and initiative of our trainees when work is required to organise meetings, submit information or set up networks.
Curriculum vitae The trainees prepare a functional curriculum vitae for internal marketing.
D
Day-to-day business The day-to-day business is the basis for the success of our company. If the day-to-day business is not done properly, there would be no project work. It is therefore very important for us that our trainees get to know the day-to-day business in each of their assignments.
Destinations The assignments in the destinations can take place in any of our holiday destinations. They mainly take place around the Mediterranean.
Duration The Trainee Programme lasts 18 months although a move to a permanent job can take place at any time. We do, however, recommend remaining in the programme for at least 12 months.

The length of each assignment is usually between three to four months.

E
Enjoying life The fun aspect should naturally not be forgotten whatever the pressure of work.
Entry We offer two entry dates per annum: February 1 and September 1.
F
Feedback The trainees carry out a structured feedback discussion with their specialist line manager in each case after every assignment.
Flexibility We expect our trainees to be as flexible as we are, as demonstrated by the structure we have set up for the Trainee Programme. Flexibility with regard to assignments and tasks. Assignments can in some cases be arranged at very short notice. The tasks range from pure day-to-day business through to pure project work. Projects can be moved around, as their priorities change - every day can bring surprises!

G
Going beyond Our trainees should always think a step ahead, always go the extra mile, and also be happy to go in an unconventional direction. We always expect unusually high levels of commitment.
H
Headquarters Every trainee should ideally have one assignment within the holding to get the "top down" view of the Group. How is the world's largest tourism Group managed from the top? Where do things come together? What tasks are carried out at headquarters? Trainees will find the answers to these and other questions during their assignment at headquarters.
I
Individuality We do not arrange ONE Trainee Programme. Each trainee takes part in their own customised Trainee Programme. We only set up a few function-related elements: an assignment in a holiday destination, an assignment at headquarters, and at least one assignment abroad. The assignments should be a mixture of day-to-day business and project work. Within this framework the trainees are free to design their own Trainee Programme in co-ordination with the trainee supervisors.
Internationality Internationality in our Group has three sides: on the one hand, we recruit international candidates for our Trainee Programme because we are an international Group. On the other hand, for the same reason we also assign our trainees internationally to foreign subsidiaries. Besides this, we expect from our trainees that they already gained international experience during their studies.

J
Job/permanent position There is no fixed time at the beginning of a programme of when and where a trainee receives a permanent position. This arises during the course of the Trainee Programme. Trainees frequently receive offers during the course of their assignments. And vacancies which trainees do not have an opportunity to become familiar with during the course of an assignment are naturally also open to them.

M
Management Position After finishing the Trainee Programme and starting with a permanent job, you will be qualified to take over a first management position. This means that you can take over first responsibilities, be it for a special subject or for a certain budget.
M
Meals During their foreign assignments, trainees receive a meals allowance according to the location they are in.
Mentor An experienced trainee stands at the side of new trainees as a mentor for the first three months of the Trainee Programme.

N
Nationalities At the moment, trainees from three different nationalities are taking part in our Trainee Programme - Germany, Spain and Sweden.
O
Opening doors Every assignment that you complete as a trainee effectively markets our programme. You open doors for subsequent trainees. In companies which only had minor contact with our Trainee Programme, you help establish its credentials.
Opportunities The "opportunities" list of our personnel development contains numerous seminars for personal and technical further development, and are open to all our trainees.

P
Presentation To improve the presentation skills of our trainees we give you the opportunity at our assessment centre as well as at various recruiting events to learn these skills by presenting our Group or the Trainee Programme.
Project work Trainees learn about project work during the course of their assignments. A fixed part of the programme is the project management seminar which teaches trainees the methodology involved. The last six months of the programme are mostly focusing on project work.
Prospects In our international Group there are many opportunities open to trainees after completing their Trainee Programme. The path you take primarily depends on your own career objectives. Everything is possible!

Q
Qualification profile The qualification profile contains all of the items which we consider most important. But not all of the criteria should be understood as "KO" criteria.
Quality Our Trainee Programme is subject to regular quality checks. In addition to feedback from individual departments, it is also very important to have feedback dialogues with the trainee to improve our Trainee Programme.
R
Rent allowance Trainees who are placed abroad receive a rent allowance.
Responsibility We expect trainees to behave responsibly with regard to all of the tasks they are delegated. Trainees should take responsibility for the results of their work.

S
Salary The salary for the Trainee Programme is approx. Euro 36 000. This is in addition to support with rented accommodation and additional expenses associated with international assignments.
Starting date There are two fixed starting dates for our Trainee Programme: February 1 and September 1.
Selection procedure We have developed a multi-stage selection procedure because of the large number of applications we receive and the number of places available in the TUI AG Trainee Programme. The final stage involves the assessment workshop.
Supervision The trainees are supervised by the Management Development department represented by Ms Linda Witte. This is the nerve centre where all of the aspects involving the Trainee Programme are also co-ordinated (assignments, seminars, trainee meetings, ...)
T
Travel guide To get to know our product and our customers better, each trainee spends an assignment lasting two to four weeks in one of the destinations. Trainees gain an insight here into the work of our tour guides: airport service, hotel service, information hours, welcome cocktails, and excursions, are just a few of the tasks included in the timetable.

Work-Life-Balance After having finished university and starting with the first job you are certainly eager to show your performance and your potential. We appreciate this and we certainly do expect this. Nevertheless, do not forget that there is life next to your job. We will keep an eye on the hours you are working per day and week and month and year.
X
X-culture Because many cultures come together within our Group, we also want to develop an x-culture in our Trainee Programme.
Y
Y-career Our staff have three career tracks to chose from: management track, expert/specialist track or project manager.

2.5 month talks After the first 2.5 months, trainees have their first feedback discussion with their specialisation line manager. This also includes a development discussion with their trainee supervisor. This lays down the basic timetable for the Trainee Programme (subject to alterations). This looks forward to the next assignments and looks at a possible overseas assignment.
