TUI International Management Trainee Programme All of the important details
General
The former Preussag AG, and now TUI AG, has run an International Management Trainee Programme as part of its junior management development strategy for more than 40 years – in addition to the programmes operated by individual companies. This International Management Trainee Programme is primarily open to university and technical college graduates with engineering, business administration, economics and tourism management degrees.
The new challenges facing the Group are also reflected in changes to our Trainee Programme to ensure that this also always echoes the changing demands.
Management Trainee Programme objectives
Four objectives are pursued by the international Group Trainee Programme:
- To further develop your specialist qualifications within the framework of a professional career.
- Getting to know the Group's structures and different cultures.
- Building up your own Group-wide network of contacts.
- Promoting the corporate ethos (philosophy, culture, etc.)
Duration of the Management Trainee Programme
The Management Trainee Programme lasts for 18 months. However, it is also possible to cut the Trainee Programme short if the trainee receives an attractive offer from a company or the holding. We do, however, recommend that you remain within the programme for at least one year.
Management Trainee Programme schedule
During the Management Trainee Programme, your assignments will last around 3 to 4 months each. These should be carried out at different Group companies which enables you to gain as wide an impression and insight as possible into the Group as a whole. You will, at least, have one international assignment as well as one assignment in the holding and in one of the destinations.
Management Trainee Programme sub-units
In the Management Trainee Programme you choose one out of four main tracks: controlling/general management, marketing, human resources and tourism. If you choose the tourism track of our Management Trainee Programme, you will have placements in departments which are very close to our product, like product management, yield management, calculation or quality management. No matter which core subject you decide on, you will learn about the whole tourism experience chain from A to Z.
As a trainee, you choose one main specialisation which will then be pursued throughout the Management Trainee Programme. The aim of this structure is to ensure that you gain a detailed understanding of your specialist area – strategic as well as operative knowledge. The tasks involved can range from day-to-day business right through to pure project work. A combination of both aspects during your assignments would be ideal.
A must for you and your trainee colleagues is an assignment in one of the destinations to gain an insight into the duties carried out by tour guides. Here you get to know our products better than anywhere else. Within a two to four weeks assignment you will gain an impression of this side of the business.
For 1 February 2008 we are mainly looking for...
...graduates who would like to focus on either controlling/finance, tourism, HR, hotelmanagement or airline.
Further training opportunities
During the programme, you will follow togehter with your trainee colleagues several trainings. Our aim is to qualify our trainees regarding the competences required for management positions. We offer you trainings such as communication, effective presentations or project management.
After nine months you will go through an orientation assessment center. The results of this analysis of your potential will be the basis for further personal development.
Trainee meetings
Regular trainee meetings help you intensify your network amongst the Group trainees. They are also a valuable forum for exchanging experience.
Trainee experience-circel
Every two months all trainees placed in Hanover will meet to exchange experience, present to each other current project work or tasks from their day-to-day business.
Fireside chat
Also, every two months, trainees will meet a personality out of the TUI group to discuss special topics in a casual 'fireside chat'. These meetings will be organised by the trainees.
Annual general meeting
All trainees take part together at the TUI AG annual general meeting.
Trainee Alumnis
Trainee-Alumni have been founded in order to strengthen the communication between Ex-Trainees and current Trainees of TUI AG and of all its subsidiaries. At meetings every two years, which will be organised by the Alumni club, members will have the opportunity to widen their horizone, knowledge and background information and furthermore take the chance of exchanging different points of view. The club will help to bring its members together regardless of nationality and company within the World of TUI.
Target group
The target group includes university graduates with degrees in: business administration, economic engineering, and economics (including those with a tourism major). Because as a trainee you will be doing "real" work right from the first day of your assignments, and will not be involved in any unnecessarily long periods of familiarisation, you should already have an in-depth theoretical understanding of your area of specialisation, ideally underpinned by relevant practical experience.
Application procedure
A prerequisite for entering the Trainee Programme is successful participation at an applicant assessment workshop. The observers during this 1,5-day selection procedure are managers and specialists from the Group companies.
Application and entry deadlines
We offer two entry dates: February 1 and September 1.
The ideal time to send your application documents is about 5-7 months in advance of the entry date. The last step in the selection procedure, the workshop, will be around 3-4 months before the programme starts.
