Group overview

TUI AG is an internationally active group with the sectors of tourism and shipping. In both these divisions TUI commands a leading market position: number 1 among the European travel companies and number 5 in the world of container shipping. In the financial year 2007 the turnover of TUI AG was €21.9 billion with total earnings of €616 million (underlying EBITA). On 31 December 2007 the headcount totalled 68,500 employees.

Divisions

Tourism:

  • TUI Travel PLC
    In September 2007 TUI AG merged its travel activities – with the exception of its hotel business – with the British travel group First Choice Holidays PLC to form TUI Travel PLC, listed at the London Stock Exchange. TUI AG is the biggest shareholder in the new company being represented in 180 countries around the globe and handling more than 30 million customers. TUI Travel PLC offers a wide range of leisure travel experience.
  • TUI Hotels & Resorts
    With 237 hotels and some 144,000 beds TUI Hotels & Resorts is the biggest leisure hotelier in Europe. The portfolio includes such famous brands as Riu, Grecotel, Grupotel, Iberotel, Dorfhotel, ROBINSON and MAGIC LIFE.    


Shipping:

  • Container shipping:
    TUI AG has organised its shipping activities under the umbrella of Hapag-Lloyd AG, based in Hamburg. With 141 container ships the company provides a total capacity of 493,000 TEU. More than 8,000 employees worldwide take care of the logistical needs of their customers. Hapag-Lloyd AG is a wholly-owned subsidiary of TUI AG.

  • Cruises
    Hapag-Lloyd Cruises
    is the leading operator of premium and luxury cruises in the German-speaking countries. The fleet includes the cruise liners MS Europa (5-star+), MS Hanseatic (5-star), MS Bremen (4-star) and MS Columbus (3-star+).
      

    In the financial year 2007, the way for the entry into the German volume market for premium cruises was paved by the formation of the company TUI Cruises. In March 2008 European antitrust authorities have given the go-ahead for the joint venture cruise line planned by Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and TUI AG.
