From the coal face to sunny beaches – this stark contrast represents the fundamental change which Preussag – since 2002 TUI AG – has undergone in recent years. The former mining, later primary products and technology group has now evolved as an international services company with Tourism and Shipping divisions.
The reorientation began in 1997 when the management of Preussag made its first but far-reaching investment in the tourism business with the acquisition of Hamburg-based company Hapag Lloyd. You can read about the history of Hapag Lloyd here.
A year later Preussag bought shares in Touristik International GmbH &Co, in short TUI, Europe’s biggest travel company, whose name was later adopted by Preussag. You can go to the company history (in German language) of tour operator TUI Deutschland here.
