Container shipping – Hapag-Lloyd, the No5 worldwide
TUI’s shipping activities are brought together within Hapag-Lloyd AG. The company is based in Hamburg and has more than 8,000 employees.
As a result of the takeover of the Canadian CP Ships in December 2005 TUI significantly expanded its container shipping division. Hapag-Lloyd is now one of the five biggest container shipping companies in the world. Hapag-Lloyd, with more than 140 container ships, are experts for dealing with comprehensive and complex logistic services. In the 2007 business year the shipping activities of Hapag-Lloyd handled a global transport volume of 5.5 million TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit). Overall the container shipping division generated a turnover of 6.0 billion euros.
