TUI AG is with effect of 22 September 2008 again the only tourism company worldwide listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index (DJSI World sub-sector Travel & Tourism). Europe’s leading tourism and shipping company has thus again proven its strong commitment to environmental and sustainability issues. In the annual review of the index, TUI AG scored best in various categories including climate strategy, biodiversity and environmental reporting and strategy. “With our sustainability strategy, we are setting standards in the tourism sector worldwide. Environmental and social issues are value drivers for our company”, says Dr Peter Engelen, member of TUI’s Executive Board.
The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index comprises the 320 leading sustainability-driven companies of the Dow Jones Global Index, consisting of 2,500 members. The assessment of the companies takes account of environmental and social criteria alongside their selected economic criteria. Combining its economic corporate targets with the commitment to its employees, environmental and social responsibility, TUI actively engages to promote the quality of life, safeguard the natural environment and reduce business risks by means of a wide variety of initiatives focused on social and environmental aspects, both at the corporate sites and in the destinations.
TUI AG has been a constituting member of the international ethics index FTSE4Good since as early as the spring of 2004. Moreover, the Group has been represented in the sustainability index ASPI Eurozone since 2001 and the Ethibel Pioneer Index since March 2005. Since 31 January 2007 TUI AG has also been announced a member of the ECPI Ethical Index €uro.
