With registrations up by more than 25 percent compared to the same period last year the TUI Marathon Palma de Mallorca is maintaining its steady growth in the number of participants that it has enjoyed in recent years. In October 2011 the TUI Marathon Palm de Mallorca is going into its eighth year with a new finishing stretch between the Mediterranean and the cathedral. Runners can take in Palma’s cathedral as well as the promenade and the sea view on the final sprint along the Paseo Maritímo finishing stretch in the centre of Palma. By moving the finishing zone, the organiser of the “most beautiful island marathon of the world” is responding to the popularity of the event. Until this year runners reached the finishing line by running on a red carpet beside the sea. “The new finish with panorama view is only a few metres away along the paved Paseo Maritímo. This gives runners and spectators more room along the finishing straight,” explains Michael Lambertz, head of Group Marketing TUI Travel.
ATB, the Tourism Agency of the Balearic Islands, is again a partner in the TUI Marathon Palma de Mallorca. “The TUI Marathon has long been a flagship for the island of Majorca and the international reputation of the event is growing. The many years of cooperation between ATB and TUI have consolidated this development,” said Joana Barcelo Martí, Minister of Tourism for the Balearic Islands at the ITB, the International Tourism Exchange, in Berlin. For the first time team sportswear specialist JAKO will be the official outfitter of the 2011 TUI Marathon Palma de Majorca. JAKO will be responsible for the outfitting at the event and amongst other things will produce the finisher t-shirts for the runners as well as provide the t-shirts for the volunteers.
