Airlines

TUI AG: Flugzeug mit Winglet / winglet technology

Climate effects of TUI airlines

Civil aviation continues to be a sector with major growth potential. Using fossil fuels to operate TUI’s airlines causes greenhouse gas emissions.

The debate about climate change focuses on carbon dioxide (CO2). Other emissions caused by burning aircraft fuel are carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC) and nitrogen oxides (NOx).

Aviation currently accounts for 2-3% of global emissions (source: IPCC).

Reduction target

TUI Airlines aim to reduce their CO2 emissions by 6% by the end of the financial year 2013/14 (base line: 2007/2008) through a continuous replacement of aircraft.

Fleet renewal

A future-oriented fleet renewal programme will contribute substantially to improving our carbon footprint. more …

Carbon offsetting
