Throughout the Group the TUI corporate companies are united in fighting against child prostitution. In the majority of cases this is carried out in cooperation with the international child protection organisation ECPAT (End child prostitution, child pornography and trafficking of children for sexual purposes). ECPAT has developed a code of conduct for the tourism industry based on the UN Human Rights Declaration and the UN Convention on the rights of children.
The code of conduct includes:
- Preparation and distribution of a flyer explaining the background
- Giving information to and making employees aware of the situation
- Inclusion of clauses in contracts with service providers
- Giving information to customers
- Inclusion in employee training
- Consideration in corporate principles
- Annual reporting
Customers are informed of the efforts undertaken by TUI by means of appropriate sections in the brochures, guest information, websites, inflight magazines, pamphlets, flyers and in cases also inflight videos. Staff training at various company locations and in the destinations help remove taboos and make people aware of the problem. All involved companies of the Group have included appropriate clauses in their hotel contracts to the effect that supporting or tolerating child prostitution can be penalised.
