Destinations

Our customers consider the environmental quality of their holiday destinations to be one of the main factors determining the quality of their holiday – it therefore plays a crucial role in holidaymaker satisfaction. Making sure that nature stays intact is the only way of guaranteeing the long-term economic success of the tourism business.

Cooperation

One of the main priorities of TUI AG Environmental Management's work is therefore collaboration in our holiday destinations to promote sustainable development with the aim of safeguarding the natural foundations of our tourism business. A crucial part is played here by intensive dialogue, close cooperation, a great deal of government lobbying, and persuasion of contractual partners such as hoteliers, agencies and environmental protection organisations in the locations themselves.

Sustainability Agreement, Balearic Islands

TUI AG and the Government of the Balearic Islands in 2009 signed a further framework agreement for preserving and promoting the environment in the popular holiday region.
The basic idea of the agreement is aimed at developing tourism on the Balearics in an environmentally sound way that safeguards equally the natural resources as well as the future of the travel business.

The focus is on current issues such as climate protection and preservation of biodiversity. At regular working meetings concrete projects are to be developed as a means of helping to promote the environmental awareness of tourists, hotel partners and tour operators.

TUI Destination Monitoring

To check the environmental quality in our holiday regions, local TUI staff carry out an annual survey of local authorities, environmental groups, etc., and report back to TUI Environmental Management on the current state of the countryside and the environment since 1992. In 2009 we launched a web-based system for the reporting and consolidation of data.
