Sustainable Development at TUI
Dr. Michael Frenzel – Chief Executive of TUI AG
Dr Peter Engelen – TUI AG Executive Board Member, responsible for Human Resources, Legal, Environmental Management and Sustainable Development
A globally operating group such as TUI, which not only claims to be but indeed is the market and brand leader in tourism and which continuously further develops quality standards and innovations for holidays, cannot evade the growing social expectations of the general public regarding "sustainability leadership". TUI is well aware of and accepts this complex challenge and the associated conflicting goals. We know that we must provide convincing answers. The public should know not just how much we earn, but also how we earn our profits.
Sustainable development therefore means for TUI the continuous balancing over the long-term of economic, ecological, social and cultural needs. In doing this we safeguard our competitiveness, avoid risks and secure opportunities, promote the potential of employees, intensify cooperation with public interest groups, and sustainably improve the efficient use of natural resources at Group locations and in the holiday destinations.
International rating agencies and sustainability analysts have confirmed our compelling results in the field of sustainability. TUI AG, as the only tourism company in the world in the subsector of Travel & Tourism, is listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) World. In addition TUI has been able to maintain its position in the international ethics indices FTSE4Good, ASPI Eurozone and the Ethibel Pioneer Index. Membership in these prominent financial market indices for sustainable investment shows that throughout the Group TUI understands how to reconcile its business policy with the sustainability and responsibility required of a globally operating company.

Guideline for the employees of the TUI Group when dealing with business partners, other employees, shareholders and the public
Sustainable economic, ecological and social actions are for TUI essential elements of our corporate culture. This includes integrity in dealing with our business partners, employees, shareholders and the public.
Consequently we must base our strategic ideas and our day-to-day business always on very high ethical standards and on the adherence to the legal regulations. How the Group and the Group companies are perceived by the public is essentially influenced by the conduct, actions and behaviour of each and every one of us. Every one of us shares the responsibility for ensuring that we as a Group and as Group companies enjoy a good standing and reputation throughout the world. The guidelines provide a minimum standard and binding rules that should be observed by all employees of the TUI Group. Every Group company can adopt more far-reaching regulations corresponding to national values. They are intended to help overcome ethical and legal challenges in the daily work. In conflict situations they should provide an orientation. We in particular as a service provider rely for our economic success on gaining and keeping the trust of our customers through our faultless behaviour. Only then will we be able to continue to be successful on the market .
