TUI Deutschland certified environmental management

TUI Deutschland has been certified according to the DIN EN ISO 14001 international environmental standard since June 2003. This officially confirms that the environmental balance is being continuously improved in each link of the tourism value chain by the establishment of an Environmental Management System (EMS).

New environmental goals are established annually on the basis of systematic environmental monitoring. Implementation is verified internally and externally.

Elements include the monitoring of environmental aspects in hotels, the in-house definition of cooperation between different departments, and cooperation with nature conservation organisations as an intrinsic part of the programme. At the same time, the programme at TUI Deutschland headquarters in Hanover also includes issues such as waste sorting and water and energy consumption. An example of the benefits are savings of over Euro 40,000 since 2001 through more efficient water and waste management! Environmental protection is therefore a real cost factor.

The process of certification began in 2000 with its participation in the local Agenda 21 project of the Hanover city administration. The aim of this project is to implement the principles of sustainability in a practice-oriented way within the interested companies. TUI D was designated an “ÖKOPROFIT Hanover Business 2001” in March 2002. In this context, the results of the internal environmental status report were published for the first time on the TUI Deutschland website.
